His coworker, who could not swim, dove into the water and needed assistance. Eric VanAuken attempted to help but was unsuccessful due to the victim's thrashing. Brandon Gruttemeyer, a sailing instructor, found a flashlight and located the victim underwater. Eric VanAuken and Brandon Gruttemeyer pulled the victim from the water, and Eric administered CPR.
