Authorizes use of vehicle-mounted variable message signs on emergency vehicles for safety-related communications.
The bill amends the vehicle and traffic law to allow emergency roadside service vehicles, tow trucks, and highway assistance vehicles to use vehicle-mounted variable message signs when responding to roadside emergencies or disabled vehicles. These signs can only be used for safety-related communications, such as "slow down/move over" and directional arrows. The signs cannot be used for advertising or general traffic control purposes.
