Enacts "Jesse's law" to amend the mental hygiene law, granting individuals subject to involuntary emergency admission for mental illness the right to select the hospital for their admission. The chosen hospital must meet specific criteria, have adequate space and staffing, and be within fifty miles of the location where the person is taken into custody. The Department of Mental Hygiene will distribute an updated list of qualified hospitals to county sheriffs within 60 days of the act's effective date.
