New York A09021 amends the state constitution to clarify succession in the event of gubernatorial and lieutenant-gubernatorial absences.
New York A09021 amends the state constitution to clarify the succession process in the event of a vacancy or inability in the offices of governor and lieutenant-governor. If the lieutenant-governor is unable to act as governor, the temporary president of the senate will perform the duties of lieutenant-governor. If the temporary president of the senate is also unable to act as governor, the speaker of the assembly will assume the role. The bill also specifies that in the case of a vacancy in the office of lieutenant-governor alone, the speaker of the assembly will act as governor.
