This bill amends the criminal procedure law to expand eligibility for judges presiding over designated youth parts in New York State. Judges presiding in the youth part can be family court judges or superior court judges with relevant training and experience. They will receive training in juvenile justice, adolescent development, and effective treatment methods for reducing unlawful conduct by youths. The youth part will have exclusive jurisdiction in all proceedings in relation to juvenile offenders and adolescent offenders. The act takes effect immediately.
