A08572 amends the family court act by adding provisions for orders of protection in child abuse and neglect cases. The court can issue an order of protection against a person who was a member of the child's household or a person legally responsible for the child's care, independently of any other order. Such an order may contain reasonable conditions of behavior to be observed for a specified time. The order may remain in effect for up to two years or, if special circumstances are found, up to five years.
