New York A08100 amends the education law to require financial literacy instruction for students in sixth through eighth grade. The instruction must be age-appropriate and cover topics such as budgeting, savings, credit, debt, insurance, investment, and other personal financial responsibilities as determined by the education department. The commissioner will provide school districts with sample instructional materials and resources to support implementation. The act takes effect immediately and applies to all school years starting after July 1 following its enactment.
