The "Lifeguard incentive and debt assistance (LIDA) act" provides financial aid assistance to eligible students working as lifeguards during their academic career at a college or university in New York. Eligible students receive 25% or 50% of the state's monthly average student loan payment for up to five months annually, depending on their lifeguard duty. Post-graduate students who maintain an active lifeguard certification for four years receive a one-time debt relief check equivalent to the average monthly student loan payment in New York, issued for six months.
