Provides service credit for correction officers for leave related to birth or adoption of a child.
This bill amends the retirement and social security law to allow correction officers in the New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System (NYSLERS) to receive service credit for leave related to the birth or adoption of a child. Eligible officers must file a claim within 90 days of returning from leave and contribute based on their most recent 12 months of non-zero compensation. The credit cannot exceed one year per leave period and requires at least five years of credited service in NYSLERS. Suffolk County will bear all past service costs.
