This bill amends the criminal procedure law to give judges more discretion in imposing bail on principals charged with a felony, those charged with a misdemeanor while awaiting trial for another crime, those who are a threat to the community, and those charged with a felony while on probation or post-release supervision. It also requires that principals charged with offenses related to three separate instances of criminal activity be committed to the custody of the sheriff. The court must explain its choice of securing order on the record or in writing.
