New York law requires food establishments to label prepackaged foods with major allergens.
New York law mandates that food establishments label all prepackaged foods with a written notification on the package or on a label attached to the package identifying any ingredient that constitutes a major food allergen. Major food allergens include milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, sesame, and soybeans, as well as any food ingredient that contains protein derived from these foods. The law does not require labeling of highly refined oils or ingredients exempt under federal law.
