Under the new definition, a person commits aggravated cruelty when they intentionally kill or cause serious physical injury to a companion animal with aggravated cruelty, or recklessly engage in conduct that creates a grave risk of serious physical injury or death to an animal, resulting in such injury or death. Aggravated cruelty is defined as conduct intended to cause extreme physical pain or done in an especially depraved or sadistic manner. This act takes effect immediately.
