For a first conviction, violators face a fine of up to $300 or imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both. A second conviction within ten years results in a fine of up to $600 or imprisonment for up to 90 days, or both. A third or subsequent conviction within ten years carries a fine of up to $900 or imprisonment for up to 180 days, or both. The act takes effect immediately.
