Authorizes local school districts and municipalities to set school speed limits.
This bill amends the vehicle and traffic law to allow local school districts and municipalities to determine and establish the maximum speed at which vehicles may proceed on a highway located in a school zone. The absence of signs indicating a speed limit will be presumptive evidence that the Department of Transportation has not established a higher limit than the statutory fifty-five miles per hour.
