New York A05862 would amend the general business law to prohibit advertising for certain junk foods on television between the hours of 6 A.M. and 9 P.M. The term "junk food" is defined as any food with more than 400 calories per serving, more than 480 milligrams of sodium per serving, more than 35% of calories from fat, more than 10% of calories from saturated fat, more than zero grams of trans fat, more than 35% of calories from total sugars, or more than 15 grams of total sugars per serving. Violators would be guilty of a misdemeanor. The act would take effect one year after becoming law.
