New York A05217 amends the vehicle and traffic law to establish new weight limits for vehicles with three or more axles. For vehicles loaded and equipped with pneumatic tires, the total weight on all axles cannot exceed 34,000 pounds plus 1,000 pounds for each foot of distance from the foremost to the rearmost axle. However, vehicles powered primarily by natural gas can have a maximum gross weight of up to 82,000 pounds. For vehicles with a total gross weight less than 71,000 pounds, the higher of two weight limits applies. The provisions do not apply to fire vehicles.
