Directs the department of health to develop a residency program for physicians in medically underserved areas.

The bill directs the New York State Department of Health to develop and implement a residency program initiative for physicians who agree to work in medically underserved areas. The program will fund fifty residency positions. To qualify, physicians must complete an application, have failed to match in the national resident matching program, be New York state residents, and either have graduated from a New York state accredited medical school and passed the United States medical licensing examination steps 1 and 2, or be certified by the education commission for foreign medical graduates.
