Provides line of duty sick leave for first responders diagnosed with or displaying symptoms of a pandemic virus.
New York A04484 amends the general municipal law to provide line of duty sick leave for first responders exposed to or diagnosed with a pandemic virus. This leave is granted from the date of diagnosis or symptom onset, without loss of accrued sick leave. First responders include police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and paramedics. Employers are prohibited from taking adverse actions against employees for utilizing this leave. The state will reimburse public authorities or municipal corporations of less than one million people for the cost of this leave.
