New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center must accept DNA evidence from firearms and related items for certain criminal possession charges.
The bill amends the executive law to require the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center to accept evidence or samples for DNA analysis from any firearm, rifle, shotgun, ammunition, or magazine loading device when the sole charge is criminal possession of a weapon in the first, second, third, or fourth degree, or criminal possession of a firearm. This requirement overrides any existing laws, rules, or regulations to the contrary. The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
