The bill establishes the New York state loan redemption program for certain public school teachers. Eligible teachers must have graduated in the top 20% of their high school class, scored in the top 20% on the SAT or ACT, graduated from an institution of higher education with a GPA of at least 3.5, and teach STEM or special education classes. The program redeems up to $9,000 or the outstanding balance of eligible student loan expenses after three consecutive years of full-time teaching in a public school.
