The "Sickle Cell Treatment Act" establishes five centers for sickle cell care excellence and ten outpatient treatment centers. Each center for excellence will receive $500,000 annually for research, while outpatient centers will receive $250,000 for management and equipping. The centers will cooperate with major centers of higher learning and life science research institutes. The act takes effect immediately.
