New York A03159 amends the insurance law to require commercial insurance coverage for peer support services as part of the diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorder. This includes detox and rehabilitation services, as well as services provided by certified peers. The coverage must not impose financial requirements or treatment limitations on outpatient substance use disorder benefits that are more restrictive than those applied to other medical and surgical benefits. The act takes effect 30 days after becoming law.
