Allows volunteer fire companies to include call firefighters who receive a stipend for each call they respond to.
This bill amends the general municipal law to allow volunteer fire companies to include call firefighters within their membership. Call firefighters respond to calls at the fire company's discretion and receive a stipend for each call, up to a maximum of $50 per call or $5,000 annually per firefighter. Call firefighters must meet the same criteria and requirements as volunteer firefighters and are eligible for the length of service award program, but are not entitled to pension or retirement benefits.
