The bill directs the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to establish a student fare program for trains and buses. This program will provide a fare reduction equal to the standard pay-per-ride fare for three fares each weekday between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. for students who attend kindergarten through twelfth grade and reside a half mile or more from the school they attend in a city with a population of one million or more. The act will take effect on July 1 following its enactment.
