Increases fines for late filing of rent registration statements to $1,000.
This bill amends the administrative code of the city of New York and the emergency tenant protection act of 1974 to increase fines for late filing of rent registration statements. If a proper and timely initial or annual rent registration statement is not filed, the owner is barred from collecting rent in excess of the legal regulated rent. The bill sets a fine of $1,000 per unregistered unit for each month the registration is delinquent. The fine is imposed by order and may be enforced as a judgment of the supreme court.
