New York A02506 amends the correction law by adding a new section 628 to establish an addiction counseling program for incarcerated individuals in county jails and correctional facilities. The commissioner, in conjunction with the office of addiction services and supports, will administer this program. After a medical screening, incarcerated individuals with a substance use disorder will be offered placement in the program, which is not mandatory. Each participant will work with an authorized specialist to create an individualized treatment plan, including an appropriate level of counseling.
