New York A02476 requires insurance policies covering hospital, surgical, or medical care to include coverage for testing of familial dysautonomia.
New York A02476 amends the insurance law to mandate that every policy providing coverage for hospital, surgical, or medical care, or reimbursement for laboratory tests or diagnostic X-rays, must include coverage for testing of familial dysautonomia, Canavan's disease, and Tay-Sachs. This coverage must be included at the inception of all new policies and at any anniversary date of existing policies, subject to evidence of insurability. To maintain confidentiality, receipt of an acknowledgment from the testing facility is deemed sufficient evidence of testing.
