New York A02270 amends the vehicle and traffic law to restrict the disclosure of records or information by the commissioner of motor vehicles to agencies primarily enforcing immigration law. Exceptions include disclosures required for driver's license or learner's permit issuance, lawful court orders or judicial warrants, and enforcement of state or federal criminal law. Upon receiving a request from an immigration enforcement agency, the commissioner must notify the individual about the request, unless it would interfere with a federal criminal investigation.
