New York A02068 amends the civil service law to provide excused leave for civil service employees who are members of volunteer fire departments or ambulance squads during states of emergency declared by federal, state, or municipal governments. Employees must maintain a log of their volunteer hours, signed by both the employee and a line officer of the volunteer organization, and submit it to their employer. The act takes effect on January 1 of the year following its enactment.
