Authorizes school districts to opt-out of zero-emission school bus requirements.
New York A02005 allows school districts to submit an opt-out waiver to the commissioner of education to exempt themselves from certain zero-emission school bus requirements. By July 2027, districts must only purchase or lease zero-emission buses when buying new ones. By July 2035, they must only operate and maintain zero-emission buses. Districts must report annually on their progress towards these goals. The commissioner can grant a one-time extension of up to 24 months if a district is making efforts to comply.
