Expands the jurisdiction of New York state university police officers to all areas of the state.
The bill amends the criminal procedure law and the education law to expand the geographical area of employment of university police officers. It removes the previous limitation that restricted their jurisdiction to state university of New York property and abutting roadways, extending it to all areas of the state. The president of each state-operated campus may enter into agreements with adjoining law enforcement agencies to establish protocols for off-campus authority, including mutual aid and assistance. These protocols do not supersede the authority of other police officers.
