New York A01665 amends the education law to require school districts, boards of cooperative educational services, county vocational education and extension boards, and charter schools to ensure that at least one staff member in every school building, facility, or annex is trained in the Heimlich maneuver. This trained staff member must be present in the same room as students while they eat meals, including in lunchrooms, multipurpose rooms, auditoriums, and outdoor eating facilities. The commissioner is authorized to create regulations for the implementation of this section.
