Provides that in any jurisdiction in which a party is eligible for free legal counsel, the court shall adjourn the trial if the party has attempted.
This bill amends the real property actions and proceedings law to require courts to adjourn trials for parties eligible for free legal counsel who have attempted to secure such counsel but are unable to obtain it through no fault of their own. The adjournments must be for consecutive periods of not less than fourteen days each until the party is able to secure counsel. The court must also notify the party of their eligibility for free legal counsel and provide adjournments if the party elects to obtain such counsel.
