Permits a close friend to make an anatomical gift of a decedent's body.
The bill amends the public health law to allow a close friend to make an anatomical gift of a decedent's body. A close friend is defined in the law. If there is more than one member of a class entitled to make an anatomical gift, the gift may be made by a majority of the reasonably available members if an objection is known. The act takes effect immediately, and the commissioner of health is authorized to implement the provisions before its effective date.
