The Wandering Officers Act amends the executive law to prohibit the provisional or permanent appointment of a person as a police officer if they have been previously fired from any police position, left a position while under investigation or facing disciplinary action, or resigned while criminal charges were pending. This applies to any jurisdiction within or outside the state. The act takes effect immediately.
