The "patient privacy protection act" amends the civil practice law and rules to prohibit any party or their representatives from conducting ex-parte interviews with treating physicians or health care providers of the opposing party in cases involving personal injury, medical, dental, or podiatric malpractice, or wrongful death. This prohibition does not apply to attorneys or their agents representing the patient, the patient's estate, or the patient's guardian.
