New York Assembly Bill A00827 amends the education law to establish Diwali, the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Indian calendar, as a school holiday. This bill adds Diwali to the list of holidays on which schools are not required to be in session, alongside Saturdays, Asian Lunar New Year, and other legal holidays. Exceptions include general election days, Washington's birthday, and Lincoln's birthday. Driver education classes may still be conducted on Saturdays.
