New York A00657 amends the tax law to increase the state excise tax on cigarettes. The tax is imposed on all cigarettes sold in the state, with exceptions for certain sales. The tax rate is set at six dollars and twenty-four cents for each twenty cigarettes or fraction thereof. For packages containing more than twenty cigarettes, the tax rate increases to one dollar and thirty-three and three-quarters cents for each five cigarettes or fraction thereof. The act takes effect immediately.
