This bill amends the criminal procedure law to allow a social worker or informal caregiver to accompany a vulnerable elderly person when they testify in a grand jury proceeding, concerning any type of offense. The district attorney must consent to this arrangement. The support person cannot provide answers to questions or otherwise participate in the proceeding and must take an oath to keep secret all matters before the grand jury. The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment.
