Maryland SB983 modifies the objections process for proposed new academic programs in higher education institutions. It allows institutions to object to a proposed program based on inconsistency with the institution's mission, unreasonable or unnecessary duplication, or failure to meet regional or statewide needs. The bill repeals and reenacts Article – Education Section 11–206.1(e)(1) of the Annotated Code of Maryland, effective July 1, 2026.
