This coverage includes intensive behavioral therapy, bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved medications for chronic weight management in patients with obesity. The program may also undertake utilization management to determine the medical necessity and appropriateness for treatment of obesity. If the Maryland Department of Health elects to provide this coverage, it must notify program recipients.
