Maryland SB315 requires the expungement of cases involving only cannabis possession charges from the Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) system if the charge was issued before July 1, 2023. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services must remove all references to these cases from the MDEC system by July 1, 2024. The bill also prohibits employers, educational institutions, and state or local government units from using expunged charges as the sole reason for adverse actions such as refusal to hire, denial of a license or permit, or expulsion or refusal to admit a student.
