Maryland reestablishes the Commission to Advance Lithium-Ion Battery Safety with a diverse membership to study and recommend best practices, standards, and guidelines for preventing, detecting, and suppressing lithium-ion battery fires. The Commission will also consider the viability of extended producer responsibility for lithium-ion batteries and the impacts of battery risks on insurance providers. The Commission will submit an interim report by December 1, 2026, and a final report by December 1, 2027.
