Maryland HB777 requires motor vehicles sold in the state to be equipped with rear occupant alert systems. These systems alert operators to check the rear seating positions after deactivating the vehicle's engine. The law applies to vehicles manufactured or assembled at least a year after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration establishes standards for these systems. The Motor Vehicle Administration cannot register vehicles sold in violation of this Act. The Act takes effect on October 1, 2029.
