Maryland HB51 creates the Maryland Digital Asset Reserve Fund, a special, nonlapsing fund to hold money seized and forfeited to the state in gambling-related cases. The State Treasurer will deposit these funds into the fund and invest them in cryptocurrency. The fund can only be used for its intended purpose and any interest earned will be credited to the fund. The State Treasurer will manage the fund, which can only be spent according to the state budget. The bill takes effect October 1, 2026.
