Chamber Passed·4/13/26

Proposing a constitutional amendment to change the process for filling vacancies in the Maryland General Assembly.

This bill proposes an amendment to the Maryland Constitution to change how vacancies in the Maryland General Assembly are filled. If a vacancy occurs on or before a specific date, a special primary and general election will be held to fill the vacancy. The Governor will appoint someone from the same political party as the vacating Delegate or Senator if the Central Committee does not submit a name within 30 days. The amendment will be submitted to voters in November 2026.
