Maryland HB1402 amends the Health – General Article to require medical examiners to release the bodies of deceased Muslims within hours after the completion of an autopsy. This requirement applies upon receipt of notice that the deceased was Muslim, which can be provided through various means including a document, next of kin notice, confirmation from an imam or mosque, or information on established funeral arrangements. The Act is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
