Georgia HB79 proposes a homestead exemption from Tift County ad valorem taxes based on a new Local Homestead Option Sales Tax.
Georgia HB79 provides a homestead exemption from Tift County ad valorem taxes for residents of the special district. The exemption amount is determined annually based on the net proceeds of a new Local Homestead Option Sales Tax (LHOST) within the special district. The exemption applies to the assessed value of the homestead property and is in addition to any other homestead exemptions. The exemption is granted if approved by voters in a referendum on November 2026. If approved, the exemption will be effective from January 1, 2027, until December 31, 2039.
