Georgia HB27 provides a homestead exemption from Lowndes County ad valorem taxes, funded by a new Local Homestead Option Sales Tax (LHOST). The exemption applies to the assessed value of homestead property, determined annually. The LHOST will be imposed within the special district conterminous with Lowndes County for ten years, from January 1, 2028, until December 31, 2037. The bill requires an election for voter approval, to be held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November, 2026.
