Georgia HB13 provides a homestead exemption from Mitchell County ad valorem taxes in the amount of the assessed value of the homestead property determined annually based on the proceeds of a new Local Homestead Option Sales Tax (LHOST) within the special district. The exemption applies to all residents of the special district, which is conterminous with Mitchell County. The exemption is in addition to any other applicable homestead exemptions and will be in effect from January 1, 2027, until December 31, 2039. The LHOST will be imposed from January 1, 2028, until December 31, 2037.
